# Service mapping

## Introduction

Field mappings are key to Patchworks services. By creating mappings between source and destination data fields, the Patchworks engine knows how to transform incoming data as needed to update the destination system

The **mapping** tab displays existing mappings for the service, organised in logical categories - for example:

## Working with mappings

For detailed information about working with field mappings, please see the [Field mappings & transformations](/product-documentation/patchworks-services/working-with-services/field-mappings-and-transformations-services.md) section of this documentation.
