# Updating a package

## Introduction

You can add and remove process flow versions to/from a package up to the time the package is deployed. Once a package is deployed, it cannot be changed.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you need to change the flows associated with a deployed package, you should [create a new package](/product-documentation/virtual-environments/virtual-environment-packages/creating-a-package.md).
{% endhint %}

## The steps

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Access virtual environment packages**

[Log in to the dashboard](https://app.wearepatchworks.com/virtual-environments) and select `virtual environments` | `packages` from the left-hand navigation menu.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Find the required package**

Locate the package that you want to update (you can scroll the list, step through multiple pages, or search):

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Select the required package**

Click the name of the package that you want to update:

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Add/remove flows**

To remove a flow from the package, click the associated `remove` button:

{% hint style="info" %}
The associated flow is removed from the package immediately (this does not affect the flow itself).
{% endhint %}

To add a flow to the package, click the `add flow` button and then choose which version to add:

{% hint style="info" %}
For more information about adding flows to a package, please refer to [Creating a package](/product-documentation/virtual-environments/virtual-environment-packages/creating-a-package.md).
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
You won't see `add flow` or `remove` buttons if the selected package has been deployed.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://doc.wearepatchworks.com/product-documentation/virtual-environments/virtual-environment-packages/managing-packages/updating-a-package.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
